Atlas / Basinski
Charles Atlas and William Basinski
2010
A live audiovisual collaboration between award–winning filmmaker and video artist Charles Atlas and classically trained musician and composer William Basinski. Combining Atlas’ innovative live video mixing of sampled film footage, prepared clips and improvised collage, with William Basinski’s haunting and melancholic soundscapes, this performance brings together two of today’s pioneering artists in a virtuoso performance.
Charles Atlas is a video artist and film director. He is a pioneer in developing media-dance, also called ‘dance for camera’, and while his primary artistic medium is video, he has experimented with live electronic performance since 2003.
William Basinski has been working in experimental media for over 25 years and his concerts, installations and films have been presented internationally, most recently at The Venice Biennale of Music. His music explores the temporal nature of life, resounding with the reverberations of memory and the mystery of time. His albums, The Disintegration Loops (2004), The River (2003) and 92982 (2009) have been chosen as some of the top annual releases respectively by Pitchfork Media, Art Forum and The Wire.
