Nascent
Gina Czarnecki
2005
Nascent is a visual and visceral journey through and about 'being'. An installation by Gina Czarnecki with Australian Dance Theatre featuring original music by Christian Fennesz, the piece's hybrid form exists between visual art, experimental media, technology and dance.
Footage of improvised and choreographed performance by Australian Dance Theatre is distorted and stretched, forming a complex and dense rhythmic structure. The dancers' gestures and bodies, poised and isolated, gradually become intertwined, indistinguishable and frenetic – mutated fragments that form and reform. Ultimately the image remains recognisably human, but only just.

Gina Czarnecki realises her art in a diverse and often unconventional range of media, including installations, sculpture, video, and site specific works. Since the mid-1990’s her work has found fascination with convergent developments in life sciences and technologies, their possible applications and how this shapes and informs identity.
