Baseline Drift Edition
Beth Kettel
This risograph edition by Beth Kettel celebrates the similarly titled Baseline Drift project presented as part of Waltham Forest London Borough of Culture and Art Night 2019. Beth Kettel worked with dancers, basketball players and WAVE community choir to tackle how games and play shape our understanding of the world. This print edition features an assembly of sketches and working imagery depicting the objects, costumes and actions behind the premiere performance. Chance, Challenge, Vertigo and Make-believe - the four components of gameplay and core themes explored in Baseline Drift - are expressed in hand-drawn style with water balloons, basketballs and stomp rockets weaving around the performance’s key players and forms reflecting Walthamstow Wetlands and other geographic and court markings. A specially commissioned text by Jamie Sutcliffe of Strange Attractor Press on the reverse responds to the inner workings of sport imbued with subversive and authoritative potential.
